From June 19-25 the MA Research Architecture programme will be putting on their end of year exhibition at the Centre for Research Architecture.

Featuring the work of Yasmine Abboud, Olympia Anesti, Nick Axel, Jacob Burns, Jesse Connuck, Rodrigo Delso Gutierrez, Yi-Hui Lin, Frank Mandell, Basima Sisemore, and Alan Yates.

The event of recognition in many ways is an acknowledgement of the legitimacy of a particular legal entity. As a precondition, recognition is also detection, identification. Lastly, the “re-” of recognition points to an act of translation by which things are thought differently.

This exhibition starts from these premises of recognition to unearth some of the conflicting sets of circumstances, decisions, controls and landscapes of the world we live in. The work presented seeks not to examine a common sense of spatial and political destabilization, but rather to initiate an engagement and re-evaluation, a recognition and re-cognition, with contemporary spatial politics.

By recognizing, we:
- Present Beirut’s contested history through the city’s structural rolling blackouts. Explore Thessaloniki’s social and architectural interface with the Roma.
- Expose the legal geography of industrial deregulation in the United States.
- Meditate on the effectivity of violence and the digital mediation of “terrorism.”
- Reflect on the relation between the home and war through military food rations.
- Frame in-vitro fertilization as a Palestinian movement of political resistance.
- Challenge the legitimacy of civil engineering metrics as a perceptive device
- Render the distinction between life and the circus unrecognizable.
- Reveal shifting axes of identity in facial recognition technology and Syrian militia defections.
- Use time variables to turn the infrastructure of urban environments over to its inhabitants.

(Català) AA Visiting School Barcelona "BODEGA, Enological Metabolism" [Architecture project oriented workshop]. Registration is now open with limited number of places available!

“In less than a decade the AA Visiting School has developed from a few scattered experimental workshops into a global network of more than 50 wildly different, highly resourced and ambitious creative programmes running throughout the entire calendar year. When you look through the five ‘regional’ booklets that comprise this prospectus you’ll quickly notice that each programme challenges different aspects of the architectural workshop, cumulatively adding up to a revolution in architectural thinking and production.” With this words, the Architectural Association in London describes their Visiting Programme, which is based on a disruptive and radical academic approach, much needed in the current times. This is the first time that the AA is visiting the city of Barcelona for the workshop “BODEGA, Enological Metabolism”, so here you can read more info:

Relying on the use of digital diagramming and mapping, we will unfold the metabolism of wine production and dissect techniques and technologies involved in the processes. Underlining the characteristics of time information and feedback, we will recognize the potential of the use of Control Systems as an essential design tool. Concluding the research, we will address the spatial and organizational attributes of the process to envisage, through the production of drawings, digital and physical models, potential architectural solutions for a contemporary bodega.

This afternoon at 19.30 h will be the presentation of the new edition of the International Festival of Architecture EME3 2013 “TOPIAS. utopias becoming real.” Under this concept, EME3 has also launched its Call for Projects, which they describe as follows:

With this vision we are getting closer to the step from utopias to reality. What we call TOPIAS.

In our next 8th edition we intend to analyze the following subjects:
•	New uses for urban public space: from self-management, empowerment and projects of collaboration.
•	Housing in crisis situation (politic, economic, environmental, demographic): solutions to evictions, to family regrouping in developed countries, analysis of temporary uses of non-used spaces, solutions for emergency housing.
•	Evolution of the working space: co-working as a space-model and new working and collaboration methods.
Network communication helps us to share the good praxis. Generalizing these practices has several stages:
•	Establish a legal recognized framework: analyzing the new financial association of interchange and, for example, giving value to the concept of generating welfare in society, etc.
•	Support education by introducing before mentioned new concepts in universities.
•	Convey communication and awareness to the public through the media, social networks and creation of open spaces accessible to all. Not only in big cities but also in medium small or isolated communities with less resources.
•	Transmit this vision with empathy and trust, in order to observe, receive and project in an open-minded and sensitive way.

By analyzing, debating, proving, making mistakes and sharing we will achieve that the public intelligence shows that utopia can become a reality.

His work is distinguished by original and playful conceptual approaches that particularly explore photographic conventions, means of representation and claims to truth. He challenges concepts of science and fiction in interdisciplinary projects that extend far beyond the gallery space. In addition to his photographic practice, Joan Fontcuberta’s capacities as a writer, teacher and curator have been greatly inspirational to the younger generation.”
